Our Purpose
United
Small Business was founded on the basis that the
small business community has never marshaled a
sustained and long-term effort to shape the conventional
wisdom that guides virtually all political and
legal decision-making. We have failed to
teach the public, the honorable objectives and
achievements of free enterprise, its contribution
to political freedom and community tranquility.
Largely because of the ideological
silence of the small business community the anti
business forces have multiplied and flourished.
The small business community keeps selling out
principle on the cold, hard altar of expediency.
We believe the only way, the
pro-business forces will win the ideological war
is to actually stand for something, and stand
for it yesterday, today and tomorrow. The ultimate
battle is for the hearts and minds of likely voters.
Former Supreme Court Justice
Lewis Powell said, The time has come, it is long
overdue, for the wisdom, ingenuity and resources
of American businesses to be marshaled against
those who seek to destroy it. At United Small
Business of America, like Justice Powell believe
that there is nothing wrong with standing up for
what we believe in, by passionately making our
case to our constituents and elected officials,
by aggressively challenging and countering the
false dogma of our critics with our truth squads.
We believe in the long run, people, politicians
and organizations gain respect not only by defending
and explaining their positions, but by simply
standing for something. Senator Simpson of Wyoming
put it succinctly, The small business community
has to take part or get taken apart.
As Abraham Lincoln expressed
it, In this and like communities, public sentiment
is everything. With public sentiment nothing can
fail, without it, nothing can succeed. Consequently,
he who molds public sentiment goes deeper than
he who enacts statutes or pronounces decisions.
He makes statutes and decisions possible or impossible
to be executed. President Lincoln also said,
I believe this government cannot endure permanently,
half slave and half free. The United States has
existed in such a state for some time now. We
are half slave, because the government has claim
to about half of our income during our lives and
we are half free because we control the other
half.
Since September 11, 2001, the
divisions in our society have deepened with every
passing day. If the left gets their way, they
will make sure that no judges will be confirmed
who do not conform to the leftist agenda. If the
left gets their way, we will continually ignore
the coming crisis in Social Security
add thousands
of more pages to the tax code (that already has
40,000 pages of social engineering), add thousands
of new regulations
let the President's tax cuts
expire, put your health care under government
control and do nothing about the frivolous lawsuits
that cost tax payers and small business billions
of dollars. As President Reagan once said, There
is no limit to what you can accomplish if you
don't care who gets the credit. Accordingly,
you don't always see our name listed on our efforts.
I am sure you agree that is
absolutely necessary to fight back against the
many faceted dangers posed by the radical left.
We are sure you agree that
it is necessary to fight for lower taxes, less
regulations, for reforming social security and
giving Americans more choice, more freedom and
more responsibility in their own lives.
We are sure you agree that it is imperative that
we fight for judges who understand that their
role is to apply that law and the constitution,
and not to create new law that gives new rights
and privileges based on what the left wants to
impose on the rest of America.
Our short-term goal is to pass
our Contract with America and to place into
every school, for each student, a copy of the
Constitution, the Declaration of Independence
and the Bill of Rights.
Our ultimate goal is to assemble
one million small business owners and their families
for a march and rally in Washington DC and to
present the President with the Small Business
Bill of Rights. All local and Sate Chambers will
be asked to participate.
