Congress Retains "CADILLAC
CARE
While Citizens Get CLUNKER
CARE"-PART III
October 28,
2009
1.) "You will pay less"-
The Congressional Budget Office has stated that
the plans now being debated will increase overall
health care costs, yet the President last month
repeatedly said that his reform would reduce costs
and save Americans money. But, no matter how many
times the President says it, the truth is everyone
will pay more-much much more-in both higher premiums
and higher taxes. The final health-care bill will
cost more than $1.5 trillion dollars over the
next ten years. That means much higher taxes for
everyone. If one totals up all the new taxes in
the House Democratic health reform bill-the income
surtax, the penalties on small businesses and
individuals that do not buy into the government
health plan, as well as other fees and taxes-
the cost to taxpayers will top $1.5 trillion dollars.
In addition, a study by the Council for Affordable
Health Insurance has estimated that the Presidents'
proposals could increase premiums by 75 to 95%.
2.) "Quality will improve"-
Anyone who believes a government takeover of the
health-care system will improve quality of care
has only to look at the health-care programs the
government already runs! The Veterans Administration
is riddled with problems- suicides among veterans
average 18 a day by the governments' estimation,
and a backlog of disability claims for post-traumatic
stress disorder and other untreated ailments are
nearly 1 million. Veterans for Common Sense brought
a suit two years ago, claiming systemic failures
in the government processing of disability claims
and appeals of denied coverage. In fact, they
claim 3000 veterans die each year while their
appeals are pending, a process that takes almost
two years on average. Don't believe anyone
would choose the V.A. as their primary coverage
unless they had to!! President Obama recently
endorsed the creation of another government board
with the power to dictate how your doctor practices
medicine and all but endorsed the rationing prevalent
in nationalized health-care systems around the
world.
The liberal media and the "talking
points" on the "radical left" claim
that there are 45 million people who do not have
health insurance or an alarming 15% of the population.
However, facts behind these numbers are very revealing.
A full 16% of the uninsured have incomes above
$75,000 a year and could obviously afford health
insurance if they chose to buy it. Roughly a third
of those lacking insurance earn $50,000 a year
or more. 4 in 10 are 18 to 34 years old- an age
range where health-care spending averaged less
than $1000 a year out of pocket. As many as 14
million mostly children- are already eligible
for taxpayer funded health insurance via Medicaid
or SCHIP. They have not enrolled yet because Medicaid
and children's health programs allow patients
to be signed up literally in the ER. 1 in 5 or
approximately 10 million are illegal immigrants,
who do get care in emergency wards in every state.
Of the remaining uninsured, 6 million lack health
insurance for 4 to 8 months. The bottom line:
about 8 million Americans, not 45 million Americans,
are chronically uninsured and low-income. In some
ways, of course, even they are covered- like those
illegal immigrants they can find care in emergency
rooms. They are covered for the strokes, heart
attacks, car accidents, etc. These facts paint
quite a different picture-don't they??
Here is a one paragraph overview
of how President Obama's health-care legislation
would work. It would be staffed with actuaries,
economists, government doctors and of course the
usual experts and czars. It will determine which
health-care procedures, remedies, and treatments
are cost-effective and which are not. Then it
will decide which ones will get paid and which
won't. We say "Just Say No!!"
We urge our members and their
employers to keep up the pressure on politicians
who are tempted to ignore the opinions expressed
at town hall meetings and make sure they don't
vote for Presidents Obama's socialistic agenda
